The importance of interactivity in online courses is well documented, but the challenge of introducing interactivity, both student-to-student and student-to-instructor, remains a difficult one. Instructors who are beginning to teach blended and online courses must take this into account in the design of their course and also be ready to use tools during the course to answer specific student questions when necessary. Polls, teleconferences, screencasts, videos, and discussion boards, when properly utilized, can help mitigate the issues posed by physical distance.

Succesful learning requires engagement, and online engagement requires a different type of interactive course design. What does this look like for adult learners, and how is it translated to online courses? This session should appeal to those who are just beginning their online teaching journey, who are building a blended course, or who began online teaching recently.
